The Seronera River is dynamic. It flows through gently sloping plains forming shallow valleys rather than deep gorges. Its banks consist of rich soils strewn with rocks (and kopjes) zons) that artistically blend into scenery while lending shade and shelter to innumerable species. These physical qualities enhance the valley’s capacity to retain water and nutrients which in turn supports foliage during the dry months.

Seronera on the other hand possessing broad gentle gorges of tributary arteries flowing freely contains calm currency. Seasonally overflowing the river expands bloom regions and floods nutritious grasslands. These factors determines the vegetation structure which positively enhances the environment for herbivore followed by dense predators.

The valley exhibits distinct ecological succession starting from the moist riverine forests in the vicinity of the banks to the drier grasslands further away, which are drier. Each layer contains different animal and plant species, with riparian zones teeming with birds and amphibians and larger grasslands inhabited by tiger and buffalo. This natural zoning contributes to the valley serving as a microcosm of the greater Serengeti ecosystem.
