Day to day itinerary
Your Kilimanjaro climb begins with a 7:00 AM pickup from your Arusha hotel, followed by a 1.5–2-hour drive (approximately 50 km) to Marangu Gate (1,860m/6,102ft), the starting point on Kilimanjaro’s southeastern slopes. After registration with park authorities, embark on a 3–4-hour rainforest trek (8 km) through dense montane forest, where towering trees and the chatter of colobus monkeys create a vibrant wilderness experience. With mountain guides leading and porter support carrying gear, you’ll ascend steadily to Mandara Hut (2,700m/8,858ft). Enjoy a hot dinner in the communal dining area, surrounded by fellow climbers, and rest in dormitory-style huts—perfect for bonding on group tours.

Mandara Hut to Horombo Hut
On Day 2 you will awake at 6:30 am. After breakfast, you hike for 5-6 hours, covering 11 kilometers and climbing to an altitude of 3720 meters, where the Horombo Hut is situated. During the climber's trek, the nature dynamically shifts from rain forests to moorlands. Those who climb will catch glimpses of the Mawenzi Peak, and vast plains at the base of the mountain. The steady, albeit slow, progression enables you to thoroughly adjust to the altitude without suffering from mountain sickness in high elevation areas. While mountain guides are explaining more about the flora and culture of the country, the porters will ensure that all pieces of equipment will be waiting for you on the Hut site. Upon your arrival at midday, which is usually around noon, the climbers are caressed with the warm, southern lunch providing them the strength boost to face the rest of the trek. The short walk after lunch is optional, yet an effective way to get the body ready for the uphill trek. When dinner time approaches, the climbers will head back to the huts with Kibo Peak watching them from the distance.

During this phase, trekkers will be trekking around 4700 to 3900 meters above sea level. At this point, adjusting to high altitude might start to become a little more challenging. Don't forget to take some time to marvel at the Kibo and Mawenzi Peaks. The guide will accompany you during this hike and help to make sure that you stay hydrated and take regular breaks to lower the chances of altitude sickness.
After moving around, stop for lunch and a few hours of light snacks while having fun talking with fellow trekkers. To finish the day on the right note, a warm dinner will set you up for the active days on this trip.

This barren stretch of land is quite high and does push your limits, however, the scenic views take your breath away and the guides along with the support from the porters motivate you to push through. They will be waiting for you and the rest of the team in the Kibo Hut. You will reach Kibo by early afternoon, enjoy lunch, and rest in the huts, dreaming of Khoho Peak. At eleven, it is time to wake from sleep and have a small meal, just enough to power up a peak ascent I set off for Uhuru Peak at midnight. Reaching Uhuru requires around 6 km of trek that lasts for about 6 hours. After reaching the Uhuru summit, it is my time to celebrate and take pictures around the glacier. The view from the top is phenomenal, glaciers and the African plains is something to behold. Afterward, I went back down and took around 3 to 4 hours. When I reached Kibo hut, it was time for brunch followed by a short rest. Finally, I descended for another 3 to 4 hours and reached the Horombo Hut. The trek was long but the sense of achievement makes it worth it. After having dinner, sleep was patiently awaited.
